Detroit judge releases more text messages

Update (3/9/09): Hundreds of text messages exchanged between or sent and received by former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former aide Christine Beatty have been released. They were released shortly after 12 noon today. Supposedly, Wayne County, MI, Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny believes the text messages may expose misconduct in city government.

Speak your peace.

(3/4/09) Wayne County, MI, Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny is expected to rule today whether hundreds of new text messages, exchanged between former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his ex-aide Christine Beatty, will be released. The request to release the texts came from the Detroit Free Press.

Kilpatrick pleaded guilty late last year to felony charges and served a four-month jail term. He must also repay the city of Detroit $1 million in restitution. Beatty pleaded guilty in January and is in jail now serving her four-month term.

Why does the Detroit Free Press need more text messages? Leave these people alone and move on to something else. Aren’t there other southeastern Michigan cities or towns worth investigating? Detroit-area mainstream media seem obssessed with the city of Detroit and, most of the time, offer only negative coverage of the predominantly black city, run by blacks…perhaps because it’s black-run.

Speak your peace.
