Although many have wondered about his birthplace, President Obama is indeed a natural-born U.S. citizen. State officials in Hawaii confirmed again that he was born in Honolulu. One question: Since when is “African” a race? Your baby could one day become the president of the United States, too. Speak your peace.

Sherri Goforth, an aide to Sen. Diane Black (R-TN), was given a “strong letter of reprimand” after embarrassing the GOP by sending a mass e-mail with a racist picture attached mocking President Barack Obama. Following racist humor related debacles originating in Tennessee such as ‘Barack the Magic Negro,’ Goforth forwarded a ‘historical keepsake photo’ of […]

Officials at Arizona State University apparently believed President Obama is accomplished enough to speak at Wednesday’s commencement exercises, but not enough to warrant an honorary degree — an honor sometimes bestowed upon the keynote speaker. Our brilliant president, however, handled the seemingly intentional insult with his usual grace and class. I come here not to dispute […]

President Obama pledged yesterday to help consumers caught between a credit card and a hard place by creating a credit-card law that does away with sudden and huge rate increases, exorbitant late fees, and confusing fine print. “I trust that those in the industry who want to act responsibly will engage with us in a constructive […]

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson won the Pulitzer Prize Monday for his commentaries on the 2008 presidential campaign. He says he had to face the challenge “to believe what we were seeing and hearing and experiencing and not what we were expecting.” Apparently, even Robinson didn’t expect President Obama to win. The Pulitzer Prizes are determined and […]

President Obama was nominated this year for two British Book Awards in London. His 2004 biography “Dreams From My Father” won the biography prize. He was also nominated for author of the year for his New York Times #1 best-seller “The Audacity of Hope,” published in 2006, but lost to Aravind Adiga for the novel “The White Tiger.” Write on.

According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll, President Obama is representing the country very well on the international stage. Seventy-nine percent of survey respondents believe other countries will now view the U.S. more positively, while only 19% believe the country will be viewed more negatively. Go Brother! Speak your peace.

According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted March 26 – 29, 2009, 66% of Americans approve of President Obama’s handling of his new job. Twenty-nine percent disapprove of the president. Although only 42% believe the country is headed in the right direction, that’s a huge increase in confidence — just 16% believed we were headed […]

The illustration on the cover (left) of the National Urban League’s State of Black America 2009: Message to the President report shows a Black president hanging his head over his desk in the Oval Office, flanked by the American and presidential flags. Clearly, the image is meant to convey the heavy burden our current president is […]

If you’re a person of color, you probably noticed last night during the president’s second press conference the more diverse group of questioners. President Obama took questions from venerable African-American magazine Ebony, Hispanic TV powerhouse Univision, and military publication Stars & Stripes. Although we didn’t see reps for BET or TVOne, Black Enterprise‘s Editor-in-Chief Derek T. Dingle was seated […]

President Obama will appear on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday, March 19. It’s the first time in TV history that a sitting president has made an appearance on a late-night talk show. The president will discuss his economic plan, among other things. Good television. Speak your peace.

We love President Obama, but we don’t believe this particular fight is necessarily worth it. The president expressed outrage Monday after learning mega-insurer AIG is planning to honor 2008 bonus contracts for key employees…to the tune of $165 million. AIG received $170 billion in bailout money from the government…from U.S. taxpayers. We understand President Obama’s […]

President Obama signed an executive order Wednesday creating the White House Council on Women and Girls. “First Friend” and Assistant to the President/Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett (above) will chair the council. The goal of the council is to coordinate a federal response to the challenges women and girls face everyday with emphasis on improving economic […]

President Obama said Tuesday to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that his administration needs to “make No Child Left Behind live up to its name by ensuring not only that teachers and principals get the funding that they need, but that the money is tied to results. And Arne Duncan [U.S. Secretary of Education] will […]

In a meeting with UN General-Secretary Ban Ki-moon, President Obama spoke out Tuesday against the Sudanese government’s latest move to expel humanitarian aid groups — a reaction to the International Criminal Court’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. President Obama said, “we have […]

In an interview with the New York Times Friday, President Obama had this to say about America’s first African-American Attorney General Eric Holder who called the country a “nation of cowards” last month, relative to discussions of race and race relations: I think it’s fair to say that if I had been advising my attorney general, […]

According to Iain Martin of the UK’s Daily Telegraph: President Obama has been rudeness personified towards Britain this week. His handling of the visit of the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to Washington was appalling. First Brown wasn’t granted a press conference with flags, then one was hastily arranged in the Oval office after the Brits […]

According to NPR, the Obama Administration released yesterday secret 9/11 memos that divulge the Bush Administration’s “exceptional search-and-seizure powers and that the CIA…destroyed 92 videotapes” of interrogations of terrorism suspects. Several Bush Administration legal memos also concluded President Bush had “broad authority to set aside constitutional rights” as long as the president is battling terrorism. […]

(Original post – 2/28/09) Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn wants to hold a special election to get rid of Sen. Roland Burris who replaced President Obama in the Senate. We’re still convinced Burris will fight to his grave. This man wants this job. He thrives on the attention. Deal with it. Update: Illinois Gov. Pat […]

The live airing of Tavis Smiley’s State of the Black Union yesterday on C- SPAN was very interesting. Standout “speeches”  were delivered by a couple of the academics, a motivational speaker, a financial expert, and Rev. Jesse Jackson on the morning panel. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson fully illuminated the difference between post-racialism and post-racism, relative to Obama’s historic […]
